“A man has been charged with two counts of unlawful imprisonment and firearm offences after he held two women hostage during a seven-hour stand-off at a Rye café, south of Melbourne, yesterday.
“The 69-year-old man fired a single shot before surrendering to police and freeing the two hostages, believed to have been sparked by a relationship breakdown.
“The siege ended about 3.20pm (AEDT), with the two female hostages, aged 45 and 32, taken to hospital for observation.
“”Police believe the older woman was the alleged gunman’s ex-partner, and that the former couple had owned the café business.
“”It appears to be that there was a shot fired early in the incident, into the roof of the premises,” Superintendent Glenn Weir said.”
