“The Brent Spence Bridge — a vital but badly outdated and overburdened transportation conduit connecting Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati — will be closed indefinitely after a crash Wednesday morning started a fire so intense inspectors couldn’t assess the damage.
“”The bridge, at best, will be closed several days,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “Several days is optimistic. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that we are looking at weeks.”
“The Ohio River closure is already causing chaos along a major transportation corridor connecting Cincinnati with Louisville and Lexington.
“Beshear cautioned those in the transportation industry, as well as local employers and residents, to prepare for more disruptions because of the closure of the Kentucky-owned bridge.”
