“When House of the Dragon premiered, I said that it was a show that was unsure whether it wanted to live in or out of Game of Thrones’ shadow.
“Four weeks later, I feel Dragon is already striding away, confident in where it wants to go — and where it wants to go is a different type of game of thrones.
“In Game of Thrones, the titular game was primarily played with violence. Wars were waged. Kings were poisoned. Lords were beheaded.
“Few of the marriages were made for political power; you could argue that Sansa’s marriages to Joffrey and Ramsey Bolton were, but honestly, they both seemed more about punishing the Starks through Sansa than gaining any advantage.”
