I’m not sure I could ever run 99-yards, let alone doing so after catching a spinning ball fired at high velocity, and with some huge guys chasing me down while no doubt shouting obscenities at the back of my head.
I must admit I’m not a huge fan of football (or American football as it’s called over here in sunny ol’ England). But even I have to admire this amazing touchdown scored by Wes Welker of the New England Patriots.
99-yard touchdowns are rare, the last one coming in 2008. This one by Wes Welker is just the 12th in NFL history, which is one of the reasons people are raving about it the day after it happened.
The other reason is that Welker is a possession receiver, primarily used as a pair of steady hands to gain the first down. Which means 99-yard touchdowns are hardly their forte. Welker will be able to dine out on this for the rest of his career.
